The onus placed by the Chair on understanding what drives the PE sector, namely the arbitrage on company valuation and its optimization, is key to succeeding as a young Analyst in an M&A department or a PE fund. It achieves this through a savvy blend of lectures given by reputed professionals of the PE/banking industry and parallel group work carried out by students on a variety of subjects. Me and my team investigated pricing practices in negotiations involving PE funds and got a fascinating peek into the reality of things. |

Since my first year at ESSEC, I was interested by the Venture Capital & Private Equity industry. The main benefit of the Chair has been the unique opportunity to meet with industry leaders and discuss with them about specific issues and the latest trends they observe. And the Chair is an effective way to start making some professional contacts, which is great for us students. The general background covered by the Chair coursework has been very helpful to put into perspective what I have learnt during my internships and during the lectures with guest speakers. The work done to write an article on Private Equity and Family Businesses has also been a great way to confront the was is taught in books with the reality of deals that can often be very colourful!
